About the Founder
I am Margaret Bertram, founder and lead EBLI instructor. With extensive international experience as a literacy teacher, instructional coach and reading consultant, I have spent decades working with struggling readers across different countries and educational settings. My background includes teaching in Australia and working as a literacy consultant in many countries, always focused on evidence-based methods that deliver real results.
When I first learned about the EBLI program, I was skeptical. How could children possibly gain four to six years in reading age in just a few months? But after training as an EBLI instructor and seeing the results with my own eyes, I knew I had to bring this powerful approach to families in Scottsdale, as well as share EBLI with the world.
Parents often tell us that their child LOVES coming to tutoring! At Get Reading, we believe learning to read should be fun and effective. Our one-hour weekly sessions are filled with engaging activities tailored to each child. Most children complete five to ten activities per session, though some need more support to stay focused and may finish fewer. We offer one-to-one instruction with me or my carefully selected and trained assistants. I am very selective about who joins the team — every tutor must share my passion for helping children learn to read. This commitment ensures every child receives the highest quality support.
Our program typically takes four to six months to complete, with children attending once per week. The first session is always free so you can experience the program and see the difference it makes before committing to a package.

Get Reading! focuses on empowering parents of struggling readers to take over the responsibility for teaching their child to read. In the 5 years before the child starts school, the parents can enrich their child’s pre-reading skills and phonological awareness so they are ready to read. Once they get to school, parents can support the child in developing their phonics knowledge and skills, reading to and with the child, and monitoring their progress. At Get Reading we want to encourage parents, partners, or tutors of struggling readers to teach their child, partner, or student to read.
By struggling reader, we mean someone who struggles to decode the words on the page. That might mean being completely unable to read a word, right through to stumbling so much that the reading is exhausting and frustrating, and comprehension is very difficult. Reading is a very complex skill, with many sub-skills having to work together at once to translate the letters on the page into something meaningful. When we analyze the complexity, it is really a miracle that so many of us learn how to read as children.
As we learn to read, we all struggle until we master all the sub-skills.
Most of us become independent readers by about the age of 8, however, many factors can get in the way of learning to read.
Some children aren’t ready at 5 or 6 years old, some have hearing or vision problems, some kids have difficulties at home and their emotional state is not good for learning. The list of reasons goes on and on. Consequently, these children usually never learn to read. The longer they struggle the harder it is for their own mindset to believe that they will ever learn to read.
